Recipe of the Week: Chicken and Waffles
Chicken and Waffles
If you say Chicken and Waffles then I’m there! This dish is simple to prepare, but oh so rich in flavor right down to the sticky syrup and buttery waffles. Are you hungry yet?
Then let’s get to cooking!
2 lbs. Chicken wings or party wings. (washed and dried)
(any part of the chicken will work)
Salt mixture (1 tsp. of each salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, cajun seasoning, lemon pepper seasoning, poultry and sage seasoning.
Dash of hot sauce and yellow mustard mixed together rub on chicken before adding the dry ingredients.
1- 2 cups flour
1/4 cup of baking powder and cornstarch. (the baking powder and cornstarch will make the chicken extra crispy)
1. Heat oil into skillet and allow it to get very hot. This part is very important for chicken to fry up evenly and crispy at the same time.
2. While the oil is getting hot place all chicken along with all dry ingredients into a plastic or brown bag and shake until all chicken pieces has been coated evenly.
3. Now that your oil is hot add one piece of chicken one at a time fry on both sides (once chicken has completely cooked you will notice that the chicken will rise to the top. (kind of like its floating upwards)
5. While your last batch is frying you may want to begin making the waffles. (cook according to directions on the box).
Now this where all the fun begins. First, you put your waffle, then the butter, then pile your chicken on top. tNext is my personal favorite part Yes, that sticky finger licking maple syrup!
(Don’t have any syrup then honey will taste just as good)
Garnish with a sprinkle of confectioner’s sugar( optional)
Enjoy with your favorite side: fries, mac and cheese, green salad or alone. Either way you will not be disappointed!
