Bruins Softball to Host Super Regional’s

The UCLA softball team continued their winning ways by wrapping up the NCAA Los Angeles Regional title. The Bruins earn the right to host the Super Regionals as the team with the highest ranking #2.

The Bruins went 3-1 over the weekend defeating Weber State in the opener 6-0 as Rachael Garcia and Holly Azvedo combined to no-hit the Wildcats. Garcia struck out 13 while pitching 6 innings before Azvedo came in to finish the game.

On Saturday Bubba Nichols homered in the first to give the Bruins an early 1-0 lead later in the 4th after two Bruin scores Nichols again went to “Uptown” this time launching  a grand slam giving UCLA a 9-0 lead. Mizzou was only able to get 1 run thus the Mercy rule was in effect.

On the final day the Tigers outlasted the Bruins 5-1 to force a show-down game. That’s when the ladies in blue took control. Again it was Nichols going to “Rip City” knocking in 5 runs on 3 hits.Super sophomore Kinsley Washington had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.

The Bruins will be chasing the 13th National title have last won in 2010. This will be their 36 appearance in the WCWS.

ADD Bruins : UCLA’s Rachel Garcia was selected Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year and repeated as Pac-12 Player of the Year while Bruins teammate Megan Faraimo was tabbed Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. 

Garcia received four Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors this season, including winning both Player and Pitcher of the Week on March 19 when she also collected Louisville Slugger/NFCA DI National Player of the Week honors. Garcia becomes the 16th all-time Bruin to receive the Pac-12 Player of the Year recognition. She lead the Conference with a 0.71 era. while batting .348 at the plate with 8 homers and 42 RBI’s.

Faraimo has 15 victories this season, the sixth-most in the Conference.She  become the third-straight Bruin to win Pac-12 Freshman of the Year (Rachel Garcia, 2017; Aaliyah Jordan, 2018).
