As the Los Angeles Chargers progress through their training camp, they use this time to determine which players can become adequate replacements to their starters and who can help them extend their season in this season’s playoffs. On their second week of training camp, some of the veterans were held out of practice to recuperate and tend to any lingering ailments.

Chargers Tight End Hunter Henry is not only a good guy but he is one of the guys working his way back to perfect health, as he suffered a knee injury early in the season last year. About Hunter, Offensive coordinator Ken Wisenhunt had this to say about Henry, “When you talk about Tight Ends being a dual-threat good blockers and good receivers, he’s at the top of the list.”

Among other things I wanted to know not only how he feels today, but what his relationship with long-time signal-caller Philip Rivers is like. Henry shared this with me, “I’m feeling good! I feel awesome, so it’s getting better and better every day. I think I’m gaining more and more confidence. I did that in the spring too. But definitely being out here with the pads on; working on the run game just getting back in the rhythm of things… it feels good.”

“I know where he wants me most of the time, and we’ve built some good chemistry on the field.” Henry mentioned about his relationship with Chargers Quarterback Phillip Rivers. “Last year gave me a big-time appreciation from the game. Just being away from it; that’s the biggest thing. You don’t realize what you have until it’s taken away from you.”

As most executives within the Chargers organization, and their fans, expected Henry to be their starting Tight End a season ago, the hopes are now that he will be ready to take over this role this season. It doesn’t appear that future Hall of Fame Tight End Antonio Gates will be returning for yet another season so the starting Tight End role is there for Hunter to claim. Though he made it back for a few snaps in the Chargers final game last season, Hunter appears to be ready to take over possession of this role.

How confident are you that Hunter can be that starting Tight End for the Bolts this season? Barring injury, I believe he will be a Top 10 Tight End this season in the NFL.
