2019 Back to School Trends With Staples
By Taliah McGuire, Contributing Writer-Los Angeles News Observer
It’s back to school season.
A time where a new pair of shoes gets to come out of it’s box, where backpacks are a big topic of conversation, and most importantly, when stores offer great deals.
Currently, Staples, one of the biggest office supply stores in the nation, is not only offering a plethora of trendy school supplies but a few major sales and rewards.
In stores only, customers can bring in any other competitors’ product, including amazon, and Staples will match the price and give an additional 10% off.
According to Andrew Angliss, Staples’, general manager at the Venice location, “Corporate has done a great job at getting more of an assortment of designs for our products.”
Backpacks, notebooks, and pencils come in different trendy prints such as 90s themes, animal prints, television characters, and pastel colors to give students a creative way to express themselves.
According to the 2017 Kids in Need Foundation’s Impact Report, colorful supplies, as opposed to plain or none, raise students’ self-esteem and make them subconsciously want to be more organized!
“We still carry great brands like Jansport and simpler designs,” Angliss says, “for those who are in high school or college.”
This year, there’s no need for teachers to pass out unnecessary paper because Staples has your students school supply lists on hand at their website.
They are also offering a classroom rewards program which contributes five percent of a parents back to school purchases to a teacher or a school of their choice.
Teachers just need to sign up online and can receive up to two-hundred and fifty dollars in rewards.
Angliss says, “General managers have going out to a bunch of schools in the area talking about it… the feedback we’ve been getting from teachers is out of this world.”
This program is especially to the teachers who have to purchase classroom supplies out of pocket, rather than with funds provided by the school.
Thank a Teacher
Thank a teacher is new national Staples campaign encouraging people to thank a teacher that has impacted their life in some way.
“Obviously, this year we’re really trying to focus on the teachers,” says Angliss.
People can get involved by nominating their teacher of choice and sharing a story on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #Sweepstakes and #ThankATeacher. People can also walk into any Staples store and write down their choice on a chalkboard placed around the store.
At the end of the season, ten teachers and/or schools will be selected to receive ten-thousand dollars.
“Overall, it’s just an exciting time of year for us… we’ve partnered with St. Mark private school here in Venice and have taken care of all of their school supplies for the year.”
Angliss also describes the back to school block party select stores have been having.
“… We partner up with schools, vendors, and small businesses to get some excitement from kids and their families… it’s just a really good time.”
Head over to Staples to participate in these festivities before this back to school season ends.
