In his 3rd season as a Los Angeles Chargers Running Back, at the moment the weight of the Chargers running game may rest on the broad shoulders of Austin Ekeler. As an undrafted free agent, the Eaton, Colorado native is currently the number one running back on the depth chart for the Chargers, with Melvin Gordon not attending Training Camp, due to a contract dispute. Having met with Austin earlier this week I wanted to ask him about his preparation for this current role that has been thrust upon him.

Being in the same system now for his 3rd season has made Austin admittedly more comfortable “More so, because of the scheme.” As for the preparation with being the lead guy at the moment, he says, “As far as my preparation, it’s always been the same and it won’t change.”

Austin sounded eager to share his knowledge with the younger players on the team, who undoubtedly have similar feeling to what he felt as he tried to make the team a few short years ago, “it comes down to; are you doing your assignments, are you in the right spots, do you know what your doing? Because at the end of the day the coach needs to be able to trust you, when you’re on the field!” Ekeler confidently explained.

Off the field, Austin finds time to explore Southern California and all that is has to offer with his girlfriend. They chronicle their various excursions throughout the city on YouTube. Recently they visited Dreamscape for Virtual Reality experience which appeared to be rather interesting and fun. You can find their Tay-N-A YouTube page by clicking on the following link;
