Bruins Come Up Short in Opener

The UCLA Bruins fell short in their season opener 24-14 to Cincinnati. The offense was led by Dorian Thomson-Robinson who completed 8 of 26 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
Demetric Felton had 2 catches for 91 yards including a 75 yarder for a TD that drew the attention of the 39,032 at Nippert Stadium. He also led the Bruins in rushing with 71 yards on 26 carries.
The Bruins trailed in the 3rd quarter 17 -7.Thomson-Robinson hit Chase Cota with a 7 yard pass that culminated a 7 play 59 yard drive that brought the visitors to within three points. That the closest they would get.
Krys Barnes and Elijah Gates had 10 tackles each to lead the defense that allowed son 417 yards of offense. Atoni Mafi chipped in with nine.
Sophomore Desmond Ridder led the Bearcats (1-0) hitting on 18 of 26 passes for 242 yards and two scores. Ridder was steady throughout the game. Michael Warren II ran for 96 yards on 26 carries to lead the ground game.
Josiah Deguara (Folsum) caught a 16 yard pass from Ridder.
“Desmond did a good job managing the game, “ said Cincy Head coach Luke Fickell.
Next up for the Bruins –San Diego State at the Rose Bowl. The Bearcats take on Ohio State in Columbus Saturday.
