Catholic Charities is a Community Benefit Organization serving the needs of families and individuals in crisis regardless of race, age or religious beliefs.

We aid clients with food relief: a family is eligible to receive a food box every 30 days without needing a referral. The contents generally consist of staples such as beans, rice, pasta, canned vegetables and fruits, and other health conscious foods.

For those who do not have cooking facilities readily available to them, Catholic Charities offers a weekly travel bag that provides clients on-the-go foods such as canned soups, granola bars, peanut butter and water. Currently, Catholic Charities serves approximately 3,600 individuals a month with food resources.

Our food pantry also assists clients with their CalFresh and PG&E Care applications, DMV reduced-fee and no-fee vouchers, and offers a rental and utility assistance program for those who are eligible.

Considered an essential business, Catholic Charities has remained open since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and has seen a dramatic increase in the need for services. With many families being out of work or experiencing a shortage in the food available to them at the market, clients are lining up at the door to take advantage of the programs and services Catholic Charities offers.

As a nonprofit, Catholic Charities relies both on monetary and in-kind donations to continue to serve Kern County residents in need. We hold highly coveted ratings on Charity Navigator and GuideStar USA for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency and $0.90 of every dollar donated goes directly to programs and services.
