The Lakers wrapped up the longest road trip of the season with a win over the Atlanta Hawks Monday night. There was a little drama during the fourth period of the game at courtside when some of the 1,300 fans allowed in got into a vocal exchange with Lebron James. Four of the fans were ejected from the arena.
“I am happy they (fans) are back in the building. I’m glad to have engagement,” said James. I need engagement during a game, all players need engagement. But I think they probably had a few drinks.”
The Lakers came away with a 107-99 win over the Hawks. They now have won 31 straight when holding teams under 100 points.
‘Were playing extremely hard covering for one another, we have a lot of energy and a lot of speed and we just let ourselves play basketball. It’s our whole team.” added James.
Anthony Davis led the scoring with 25 followed by James 21 and nine assists. Katavious Caldwell-Pope had 11, Dennis Schroder had 16, and Harrell chipped in with 19.
The win gave the team a 5-2 road trip and they return to Staples Center this week. The team now has a 16-6 (At press time)
Before going to Atlanta the team left TD Bank Garden with a 96-95 win over rival Boston. With less than 20 seconds left Alex Caruso raced back to the defensive end and foiled a Celtic fast break. The hustle play by Caruso helped the visitors escape with a 96-95 win.
“Alex just flies from the corner from nowhere,” coach Frank Vogel. Caruso only scored 2 points but finished the game with a team high wit a plus 14 in the box score.
Anthony Davis led the team with 27 points and 17 rebounds after returning to the line-up after sitting out the previous game. James had 21,7 rebounds and 7 assists.
Montrezl Harrell added 16 points, five boards and a season high three blocks.
The Lakers held Boston to a season low 17 fourth quarter points.
Before heading to Boston the Lakers had their ten-game road win streak snapped in Philadelphia 107-107.Former Clipper Tobias Harris hit the game winner with 2.4 seconds left. Led by Dennis Schroder 16 second half points the Lakers came from 11 points down in the final four minutes before just falling short.
James led all scorers with 34 points he also had six rebounds and six assists. Caruso added 10 points giving him his first double digit game of the season. Before the game Kobe Bryant was honored with a moment of silence and a brief video. The Lakers were in the Keystone State when Bryant passed in a plane crash killing him, his daughter and seven others nearly a year ago to the day.
The team had back-to-back losses for the first time this season when they fell to Detroit 107-92 the following day. Former Clipper Blake Griffin led all scorers with 23. James and Kyle Kuzma led the with 22 points each. Kuzma added 10 boards giving him his fifth double-double of the season. Talen Horton-Tucker had 13 points 2 rebounds in 14 minutes. He’s the first Laker to have 13 plus points in 14 minutes since Rajon Rondo in 2019. It’s the fifth time this year he has led the bench in scoring.
