It was Martin Truex Jr. who took the checkered flag at the Phoenix Raceway. He was NASCAR’s fifth different winner this season. It was the 28th Cup Series Win for the 40 year-old.

It was the Stafford New Jersey native first cup win at Phoenix. “I wouldn’t say we needed, I say we were really hungry for it. We really wanted it. We worked really hard we got a great team. It seemed that for whatever what reason it was always little thins biting us. We were always so close, it second or third.”

Joey Logano (Ford) came in second. “I was batting a thousand on the bottom (for restarts) the last I don’t know I was kind of  surprised that Truex was still out there.”

Danny Hamlin‘s (Toyota) finished third. It was the fourth top five finish in five races.

Bubba Wallace finished 17th after spending most of the final stage hanging around the top 10. That was his best finish all season.

Later on twitter he stated: “Improving with some serious speed this weekend and a great first outing with the McDonalds colors on board.

Gaining experience with new team and starting to fill out the note pad.”
