Max Scherzer went into the history books as he became the 19th pitcher in MLB history to strike out 3000 batters. The veteran right hander struck out Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning earlier in the week to reach that plateau.
The “Men in Blue” won 8-0 as they got homers from Cory Seager and Justin Turner.
Ironically it was Hosmer who broke up Scherzer’s no-hit bid in the 8th with a double to right field.
The Dodgers have won seven of their last eight and despite that remain 2.5 games behind the Giants (at press time).
A couple of days later they clinched a playoff birth with an 8-4 win against the Diamondbacks.
“It’s a remarkable moment when you can get to the post season for what’s nine years in a row.” said Max Muncy. “Its quite an accomplishment you can’t take the post season for granted. It’s a special moment and everyone’s excited about it.”
The team was given T-shirts that say “Built for October.” While anything can happen during the playoffs Dodger skipper had reminders.
“You don’t ever want to get jaded and not appreciate getting to the post season,” stated Roberts. ‘We also acknowledge we have a lot of work to do and this is just the beginning.”
