UCLA suffered a tough loss to Arizona State at the Rose Bowl and the only thing to do was bounce back. They took on Arizona and came away with a 34-16 win in Tucson.
The ground game was big as Brittain Brown and Zach Charbonnet went into early season form and both passed the century mark in rushing yards. “That was the plan all week,” Brown said. “We just keep this thing rolling. We got the momentum. Me and Zach, we feed off of each other. It’s good competition, we love competing against each other while going against the other team.”
Charbonnet ran for 117 yards on 21 carries while Brown tallied 146 on 12 touches including a 48-yard run. The duo helped rack-up 339 yards on the ground against the Wildcats (0-5) with 17 straight losses.
It was the first time the Bruins had two 100-yard rushers in the same game since 2014.
QB Darian Thomson Robinson went 11 for 19 for 82 yards on the day, even though the running game was in full force he felt he could have done more. “It was kind of hard to get into a rhythm, but at the end of the day, I still have to execute,” Robinson stated after the game.
“If they were going to be devoting that much to (doubling guys), then when we needed to run the football,” said coach Chip Kelly. “I didn’t see the final numbers, but that’s a pretty good day.”
