It’s been a tough year for USC football. It appears that week after week the team is in a hole that’s tough to climb out of.
They fell short against Arizona State by 31-16 score in front of 53,926 fans in Tempe. The team hung in there the first two quarters’ only to be down 14-10 at halftime.
The loss dropped them to (4-5, 3-4 PAC-12) and it’s making it tough for them to be bowl eligible. The Trojans visit to Cal this week was postponed. They are home to crosstown rival UCLA and finish up at the Coliseum against a tough BYU team.
A big peace missing of course is Drake London who was the one of nations leading receiver before his season ending his season with a fractured ankle last week. He is still third in the nation with 1,084 receiving yards behind Jerreth Sterns–Western Kentucky (1,276) and leader Devon Thompkins (1,314)–Utah State.
Event hough out of action he still leads the PAC 12 averaging 135 yards per game with Calvin Jackson Jr. (Washington State) behind him with a 74.1 average.
Trojan receivers only had 220 receiving yards as Tahj Washington led the team with 9 catches for 78 yards followed by Gary Bryant Jr. with 6 for 64 yards. Kedon Slovis and Jaxon Dart have been alternating at quarterback as the senior went 16 of 28 for 131 yards and one interception.
Dart was 8 for 19 for 189 yards and the lone TD with a nine yard scamper in the second quarter that gave the Trojans a 10-7 lead.
Parker Lewis nailed three field goals from 38, 45 and 52 yards out.
Rachaad White led the Sun Devils (6-3,4-2 PAC-12) with 202 on the ground in 28 carries and two TD’s. He became the sixth player in ASU history to go for 200 yards against a conference opponent.
Jayden Daniels completed 11 of 20 for 145 yards with two interceptions. The junior from El Cajon High has completed -67 percent of his passes and has rushed for nearly 500 yards this season.
On the defensive side Freshman Xavion Alford had his first two career interceptions while finishing with two tackles
Kanai Mauga led the team in tackles 11 with 10 being solo.. He was followed by Drake Jackson who had 8 while Ralen Goforth chipped in with five.
TROJAN NOTES: The game against CAL was rescheduled for December 4. There were several players and coaches from the Bears squad that are effected by COVID-19. USC needs two wins to be Bowl eligible.
For them not to play would just be a crime,” said Dante Williams USC interim coach. We want to play the game and a forfeit is not the way to go and you want to qualify for a bowl game our whole thing is fighting on competing.”
