Brendon Ayanbadejo was UCLA’s honorary game Saturday at the Rose Bowl. He shook many hands received smiles from current players as he walked the sideline before the game against Colorado.
The former UCLA linebacker was a member of two Pac-10 championship teams and was named first team all-conference player for the Bruins before graduating in 1999.
During the game I asked what he thought of the environment. “Its kind of quiet here,” said the Chicago born Ayanbadejo. “You have to perform if you want people to come see you.”
The Santa Cruz high attendee went undrafted in the 1999 NFL draft so he signed a free agent contract and went on to have a 13-year career and playing for several teams, including the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens.
He was an NFL 3-time special teams Pro Bowler and was a member of the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII championship team.
