I congratulate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, on her historic nomination to serve as the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and I commend President Joe Biden for keeping his pledge to nominate a jurist for this vacancy who reflects the diversity and promise of America. Judge Jackson’s career has been filled with exemplary public service. After graduation from Harvard University and Harvard Law School, she served as a law clerk to Justice Stephen Breyer – the jurist whom she will succeed on the High Court – and had distinguished service as a federal public defender, Commissioner of the United States Sentencing Commission, and judicial appointments to the federal district court in Washington and its federal appeals court. Judge Jackson has enjoyed confirmation by the Senate on three prior occasions. I trust that after fair and fulsome hearings in the United States Senate, Judge Jackson will be confirmed to the Supreme Court. I urge all members of the United States Senate to support this nominee of unquestionable fitness, temperament and character and I look forward to her confirmation.
