Mark Bowman made his presence felt in a big way for the USC Trojans against the Ragin’ Cajuns, and his breakout performance has earned him freshman recognition.
Bowman recorded six receptions for 83 yards, averaging 13.8 yards per catch. His 83 receiving yards marked the most by a USC tight end in a single game since Anthony McCoy recorded 153 yards against Notre Dame in 2009.
The freshman also scored twice, recording the first two touchdowns of his USC career. The last USC tight end to score two touchdowns in a single game was Josh Falo on Oct. 15, 2022, in a 43-42 loss to Utah.
It marked the second consecutive week that a USC freshman recorded two receiving touchdowns in a game.
A Highlight-Reel Catch
With one minute remaining in the first quarter, Bowman delivered one of the game’s most memorable plays.
Bowman hauled in a pass from Jayden Maiava over the middle, turned upfield and spectacularly hurdled two Louisiana defenders in a single bound. He landed on his feet and powered ahead for nine additional yards, completing a 35-yard reception that moved USC from its own 41-yard line to the Louisiana 24.
The play showcased Bowman’s combination of athleticism, strength and ability to make plays after the catch.
Recognition From PFF
Bowman’s performance also received high marks from Pro Football Focus.
According to PFF, Bowman posted a 90.3 offensive grade, ranking second in the Power Four and first in the Big Ten among tight ends. He also earned a 90.8 receiving grade, which ranked third in the Power Four and first in the Big Ten among tight ends.
Bowman was also named to the PFF Week 2 Big Ten Team of the Week.
After an impressive outing against Louisiana, Bowman has quickly emerged as a player to watch as USC moves into Big Ten play.
