It was recently revealed that defensive end Myles Garrett is set to undergo surgery to correct a nagging knee issue he has dealt with for several months.
Garrett has been placed on injured reserve and will miss at least four games. Rams head coach Sean McVay has since provided an even more concerning update on the veteran defensive lineman.
Knee Issue Followed Garrett to Los Angeles
Garrett has been dealing with the knee problem since arriving in Los Angeles via a blockbuster trade in early June. Following the trade, he was seldom seen at practice and had attributed his limited participation to being “old.”
It turned out that the veteran was dealing with a significant knee issue that appeared to be getting worse.
Garrett remained out of training camp practices because of soreness and swelling in the knee. Despite the problem, he was able to participate fully in practice beginning Sunday and traveled with the Rams as they headed to Australia to face the San Francisco 49ers.
Injury Shows During Game
During the game, however, Garrett did not appear to be himself.
He was taken out of the game on multiple occasions and appeared to be affected by fatigue. The knee issue ultimately limited his ability to play at full strength.
Garrett finished the game without a tackle or a sack.
Now, with surgery ahead and a minimum four-game absence expected, the Rams will have to move forward without one of their key defensive players as Garrett works his way back.
