The Los Angeles Chargers won their second straight game Sunday, outlasting the Philadelphia Eagles 22–19 in overtime before 72,000-plus roaring fans at SoFi Stadium. It was a strange, scrappy, turnover-filled contest — and one the Bolts survived thanks to their defense and a gritty performance from quarterback Justin Herbert.

Herbert, playing just one week after undergoing a procedure on his fractured left hand, wore protective padding and a glove but still took snaps under center. He threw for 139 yards, rushed for 66, and recorded a touchdown and an interception.

The Chargers opened the game with a touchdown drive, but it proved to be the only touchdown of the first half, which featured a chaotic stretch of six combined turnovers. Despite the mayhem, the Bolts held a 10–6 halftime lead behind a defense ranked third in the NFL entering Week 14.

Defense Steals the Show

Los Angeles’ defense forced four interceptions from Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, with Cam Hart, Da’Shawn Hand, Donte Jackson, and Tony Jefferson all grabbing picks. The Eagles (8–5) committed five turnovers in total, plunging their fan base into panic as offensive struggles continue to mount.

It was the most turnovers in a quarter since Week 8 of 2013, per ESPN.

The wildest moment came on a single snap, which produced three turnovers in one play:

  1. On third-and-1, Da’Shawn Hand dropped into coverage and intercepted Hurts.
  2. On the return, RB Will Shipley punched the ball loose, and Hurts recovered.
  3. Moments later, rookie Jamaree Caldwell forced Hurts to fumble, and LB Troy Dye finally fell on it after the ball skittered along the turf.

Fourth-Quarter Drama

A Cam Hart interception set up a 31-yard Cameron Dicker field goal, tying the game 16–16 in the fourth.

The Eagles regained the lead 19–16 with 2:16 to play, but Herbert led the Chargers into scoring range, and Dicker drilled a 46-yard field goal to force overtime.

Los Angeles received the ball first in OT and surged across midfield before Dicker calmly nailed a 54-yard field goal, giving the Bolts a 22–19 advantage.

Philadelphia responded with a promising drive and reached the red zone after a Chargers penalty on fourth-and-four. But with the game on the line, Tony Jefferson stepped in front of Hurts’ pass for an interception, sealing the victory and igniting SoFi Stadium.

Key Notes

  • Saquon Barkley broke free for a 52-yard TD run, giving Philadelphia its only touchdown of the game.
  • The Eagles have failed to score more than 21 points in five straight games, their longest drought since 2005.
  • The Chargers improved to 8–4, staying firmly in the AFC playoff push.
  • Herbert continues to show toughness: “He’s as tough as they come,” coach Jim Harbaugh said.
