Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava, made his second career start and first in Neyland Stadium. The former Warren High (Downey) set a Tennessee school record for passing yards in a half (314) to lead the No. 15 Vols to a 69-3 season-opening victory over UT Chattanooga. The signal caller opened the game 10-of-10 for 159 yards and two touchdowns and finished 22-of-28 for 314 yards with three touchdowns and no picks — all in the first half as UT built a 45-0 lead at the break… Iamaleava was the first UT freshman – redshirt or true – to start at quarterback in a season opener since 2004. His 78.6 completion percentage was the sixth-best in the country for Week 1 and the best by any freshman in the nation. He was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week
Nate Frazier of Mater Dei High (Santa Ana, Ca) ran for 83 yards on 11 carries helping Georgia with defeat Clemson 34-3.
Jonah Coleman of Lincoln High (Stockton) rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns as Washington cruised past Weber State 35-3 -averaging 7.9 yards per carry.
It was UW initial game joining the BIG 10. Also, head coach Jedd Fisch’s debut as the Huskies’ new coach.
