(Los Angeles, CA) The first 5 months of the year have flown by so quickly. Summer will be here before you know it. The official start of Summer is two weeks from now, June 20, 2024.

If history is any indication, summer in Los Angeles is going to be extremely hot, once we get past June gloom.

It’s already heating up from a cultural and entertainment perspective. There are several concert series that have started to keep Angelenos entertained and engaged throughout the summer.

Summer in Los Angeles wouldn’t be complete without a couple of days of June gloom, a sea of local, national, and international tourists, and the sweet sounds of free outdoor concerts at the Getty Center.

A large, multicultural crowd was in attendance for the Off The 405 on Saturday, June 1. Hailu Mergia, an Ethiopian musician and composer is best known for his work as a keyboardist and accordion player, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. Mergia gained prominence as a member of the Walias band, a prominent jazz and funk group that blended traditional Ethiopian music with Western jazz and funk influences. Hailu Mergia began the Off The 405-concert series with a lively, cultural musical performance that kept the crowd grooving with a beautiful sunset as a backdrop.

Nothing says let’s party better than the Getty’s outdoor summer concert series. Concerts take place from 6 to 9 pm and will begin with a live DJ set. Attendees are welcome to arrive early, (a valid reason to leave work early). Early arrivals are welcome to explore the Getty Center’s Central Garden and current exhibitions, bring a picnic, or purchase food and beverages onsite before the show begins.

Since 2009, Off The 405, has brought a succession of critically acclaimed musical artists to the Getty Center for memorable experiences amid stunning architecture and breathtaking sunset views. Past performers included Chicano Batman, Makaya MCraven, Bartees Strange, L’Rain, Allah-Las, Hand Habits, Cate Le Bon, Reggie Watts, Moses Sumney, Shannon, the Clams, Cold Cave, Thundercat, and Tom Tom Club, to name a few.
