Rams Continue Hot Streak, Stafford Makes NFL History

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Matthew Stafford punctuated his fourth touchdown pass of the day with a little shimmy — and a piece of NFL history — as the Los Angeles Rams rolled past the San Francisco 49ers, 42–26, at SoFi Stadium.

RAMS Speed record-Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua made NFL history Sunday afternoon against the San Francisco 49ers, becoming the fastest player ever to record 250 career receptions.

Nacua hit the milestone with his fifth catch of the game, a moment that placed him above Michael Thomas and Odell Beckham Jr., who each reached 250 receptions in 38 games. Nacua accomplished the feat in just 36 games, continuing an impressive start to his young career.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Matthew Stafford punctuated his fourth touchdown pass of the day with a little shimmy — and a piece of NFL history — as the Los Angeles Rams rolled past the San Francisco 49ers, 42–26, at SoFi Stadium.

Stafford became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw at least four touchdown passes with no interceptions in three consecutive games, powering the Rams (7–2) to their fourth straight victory.

“I was having a good time,” Stafford said with a grin. “I got hit on that one pretty good, so I had to shake that off a little bit. I’m just having fun out there. I lose my mind when we score touchdowns.”

The veteran quarterback has been red-hot, leading the league with 25 touchdown passes this season. Over the past six games, he’s thrown 20 touchdowns without an interception.

“He’s just been in total command,” said head coach Sean McVay. “It’s a continuation of a guy who works his tail off every week. He’s using all that experience and playing with so much confidence — the game looks like it’s in slow motion for him right now.”

Offensive Explosion

The Rams offense fired on all cylinders, scoring touchdowns on six of their first eight possessions. Running back Kyren Williams added two rushing scores, while Stafford connected with Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, Davis Allen, and Colby Parkinson for touchdown passes.

“It’s looked like MVP-level play to me all year,” Adams said.

Adams knows a thing or two about elite quarterback play, having caught passes from Aaron Rodgers during three of Rodgers’ MVP seasons.

Stafford completed 24 of 36 passes for 280 yards, becoming only the ninth quarterback in NFL history to surpass 400 career touchdown passes.

“It’s awesome — super cool,” Stafford said. “I’m such a huge fan of the NFL. I have so much respect for the guys who came before me. Reaching milestones like that means a lot, but it’s really about the people who helped me get here.”

Staying Composed, Staying Connected

The two teams traded touchdowns through much of the second half before Los Angeles pulled away late.

“I think our team has a bunch of mental toughness and resilience,” McVay said. “They stay connected through the good and the challenging moments. I love this group — I’m excited about building with them as we move through the second half of the season.”

San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones, starting in place of the injured Brock Purdy, completed 33 of 39 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns and one interception as the 49ers fell to 5–3.

“I wouldn’t say there’s any extra juice needed,” said Nacua. “Especially against this opponent — we just wanted to keep the momentum going after the bye week.”

The Rams have now won five straight, averaging 42 points per game during that stretch. Their last loss came at the hands of the 49ers — a defeat they were clearly eager to avenge.

Rivalry Runs Deep

Outside linebacker Jared Verse added a bit of fire to the rivalry, joking about his former Florida State teammates who now play for San Francisco — cornerback Renardo Green and linebacker Tatum Bethune.

“They texted me happy birthday this week,” Verse said. “I told them, ‘Thanks — now get out of my phone. You’re my opp this week.’”

Next up: the Rams host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, while the 49ers travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals.
