Hawthorne, CA – Popular outdoor retailer Sports Basement opened a new store in the South Bay in October 2025 and hosted a Grand Snowpening, Snow Fest, on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The South Bay store (located at 14351 Hindry Ave, right off the 405 freeway, in the “City of Good Neighbors”- Hawthorne, CA).
The South Bay store opening of Sports Basement in California is one of many that will open in the future as the company expands in Southern California. The Grand Snowpening, presented by Palisades Tahoe, featured community partners and a variety of vendors.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters, City of Hawthorne elected officials, and other community stakeholders were in attendance for the wonderful celebration.
Remarks and presentations were delivered by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Hayley Hutt, representing the office of Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor, Hawthorne City Manager Von Norris, Hawthorne City Councilwoman Katrina Manning, Patricia Donaldson, President, Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, and Eden Slezin, Sports Basement Regional Director, Southern California. The elected officials joined the enthusiastic crowd for a tour of the store.
The South Bay store is equipped with the distinct, classic Basement touches: cozy couches, welcoming and friendly faces, and gear for just about every adventure one can dream of.
Inside every Sports Basement is a space for local events, community gatherings, and perhaps, a few impromptu dance parties as the grooves move you!
The Sports Basement team is really excited about their South Bay store; that feeling is contagious for the surrounding communities. The proper street terminology is STOKED!
The team is keenly aware of the history of the South Bay being a hub for surf, skate, and sunshine-driven fun, and all things adventure. During Snow Fest, there was a steady flow of guests purchasing gear in preparation to carve the local mountains, considering the recent rains and the resulting snow-covered mountains.
The Snowpening featured sales reps from popular snow brands on site to share information about this season’s hottest (coldest?) gear, as well as to give away a ton of gear throughout the afternoon.
Snow Fest guests were able to chat with sales reps from each brand. Many lucky attendees walked away with skis, snowboards, helmets, goggles, apparel & more just in time to hit the slopes during Thanksgiving week and the rest of the season.
