The Trojans took their 8th ranked football team on the road for a 10 am local kickoff to play this season’s media darlings and the invigorated fan base of Boulder, CO. Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman trophy winner, led his squad to 48-41 victory over Colorado Buffalos. In front of the star-studded fans that pranced the sidelines to see how the Colorado Buffaloes would respond to their initial loss of the season.

Stars like USC grad KeyShawn Johnson, former NFL running back LaSean McCoy, NBA Star Kevin Garnett, and Rap star Mase are just a few of the notable figures that were on the sidelines to see the matchup between two of the best quarterbacks of the college football this season. They would see Williams lead the Trojans to an early 21-point lead, and he would finish the first half with three touchdown passes as the Trojans took a 34-14 lead into the locker room.

As he has shown throughout their games this season, the son of the high-profile head coach and Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has a flair for the dramatic. His maturity, poise and football IQ keeps the Buffaloes in most games. He finished the game with 30 completions and 371 yards passing with four touchdowns. These are also the skills that enabled him to lead the Buffaloes to come back in this game. He also added 50 yards rushing and a touchdown in this game.

As good as Sanders played, Williams was that much better. He finished the game with passing for six touchdowns and 403 passing yards on 30 completions. Williams, the Heisman front runner for this season, has to have this type of performance each week for this Trojans team, as Lincoln Riley’s and Jim Leonhard defense has trouble slowing down high-powered offenses. Their game against Colorado was no different.

As the Trojans jumped out to an early lead, they allowed 20 unanswered points in second half of the game. They also allowed Buffaloes freshman Omarion Miller to haul in seven catches for 196 yards and a touchdown. The Trojans also gave up 224 yards rushing on the ground, equating to over four yards per carry. They will have to improve this side of the ball up to complement Williams’ impressive offensive game if they want to be in National Championship contention at the end of the season.

This Saturday, the Trojans will be looking to leave the Pac-12 with their 11th consecutive win over the Arizona Wildcats. As the Wildcats travel to Los Angeles seeking their first win at the Coliseum since 2009.
