The Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the Texas Rangers, 1–0, in the series finale on Sunday, handing Texas its first home series loss of the 2025 season at Globe Life Field.
It marked the third time the Rangers have been shut out this year—twice in this series alone, including the Friday opener. The Dodgers used six pitchers to complete the shutout, with Tyler Glasnow starting before leaving with lower leg cramps one pitch into the fifth inning.
Freddie Freeman delivered the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Will Smith, pinch-hitting to start the inning, singled off Rangers reliever Chris Martin (0–3), then advanced on a Shohei Ohtani walk. Smith moved to third on a deep flyout to right before scoring on Freeman’s fly ball to left.
The Dodgers finished with just three hits, all singles, but made them count. Ben Casparius (2–0) earned the win in relief, while Tanner Scott closed it out for his eighth save.
Yamamoto, Edman Spark Game 1 Victory
In the series opener, Yoshinobu Yamamoto matched his career high with 10 strikeouts over seven shutout innings, leading the Dodgers to a 3–0 win. The game opened with a bang as Tommy Edman—filling in for Ohtani at leadoff—hit a home run on the second pitch from two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom (0–1).
Ohtani was on MLB’s paternity list, returning to California for the birth of his first child. Edman stepped up, going deep for his seventh home run of the season and later adding a single in the sixth.
Yamamoto (3–1) was dominant, allowing five hits without issuing a walk. DeGrom also pitched well, striking out seven and walking one over seven innings. He gave up only two hits after Edman’s homer.
Kirby Yates and Tanner Scott closed out the Dodgers’ second shutout of the season with one inning apiece.
García’s Blast Saves One for Texas
The Rangers avoided a sweep in Saturday’s middle game, thanks to Adolis García’s two-run homer in the ninth off former Texas closer Kirby Yates. The blast lifted the Rangers to a 4–3 win.
It was García’s fourth homer of the year and spoiled a potential first major league win for Japanese rookie Roki Sasaki. The 23-year-old right-hander delivered his longest outing yet, going six strong innings in his fifth MLB appearance.
