Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a much-needed boost earlier this week, earning his first win of the season in a 7-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Kershaw pitched five strong innings, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run. His performance helped the Dodgers avoid a sweep at the hands of the Cardinals during a rocky stretch for the team.
The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last 10 games, looking to find consistency as they approach the All-Star break. They’ve recently dropped series to the Cardinals, Mets, and Yankees.
Despite the recent slump, there are bright spots in the lineup. Freddie Freeman leads the National League with a .349 batting average and has 10 home runs (as of press time). Shohei Ohtani continues to power the offense, topping the NL with 23 home runs.
Kershaw’s full line: 7 innings, 3 hits, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, and 2 runs allowed (one unearned). He posted a 3.00 ERA in the outing. The offense backed him up with key hits, including a clutch RBI single by Mookie Betts in the 7th inning to extend the lead.
Kershaw’s return and leadership on the mound may be just what the Dodgers need to regain momentum heading into the season’s second half.
