(Hawthorne, CA) Happy Belated Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day was celebrated across the United States on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Mothers were acknowledged, celebrated and honored for their guidance in our lives, for the presence in our lives, and the sacrifices on our behalf.

Shout out to the aunts, sisters and friends who are not Mothers, but who have stepped into the influential role to make a difference in someone’s life.

Two excellent Mother’s Day Celebrations were held in the Southbay on Friday, May 12, 2023. Both events were held within a five mile radius. I was fortunate to be able to attend both events.

Founded in 1992, the Los Angeles-based Pacifico Dance Company has been thrilling audiences with its unique blend of modern and traditional dance for nearly twenty years. The talented and highly trained dancers are under the guidance of Adriana Astorga-Gainey, general and artistic director, the company has evolved and created its own unique style, costume designs, music, and choreography.

The performance at the Inglewood Library was truly brilliant. The show was educational, engaging and entertaining. The diverse crowd learned about the history of the folkloric dances, the costumes/attire worn by the dancers as well as the stories behind the dances and music.

Attendees were able to participate in a couple of dance routines, while being thoroughly entertained with a program emphasizing the unique zapateado techniques and music necessary to create authentic Mexico folk dance.

Pacifico Dance Company took the crowd on an awe-inspiring journey with a program of vibrant traditional dances and music, as we visually traveled through Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz, Chihuahua, and Jalisco.

Everyone left the show with some great memories on this wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. One lucky winner went home with a 16-piece dinnerware set to cap off this festive afternoon.
