LA County Announces Economic Opportunity Holiday Grant Program to Support Small Businesses and Nonprofits with $584,000 in Grant Awards 

The LA County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), in partnership with the Pacific Asian Consortium of Employment (PACE), is launching the Economic Opportunity Holiday Grant Program, providing $584,000 in new grants to support small businesses and nonprofits as they continue to recover and rebound from the pandemic and take part in the holiday shopping season. Applications are open starting today and will remain available through the New Year here, with funding to be distributed in February of 2025.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, U.S. Treasury Announce $10 Million Award to Support California Small Businesses

Today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee and the U.S. Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced that the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) is being awarded $10 million to support small business growth through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), a $10 billion program Congresswoman Waters secured as part of the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021. These funds will be used to support very small businesses and minority-owned businesses across California access billions of dollars in new loans and investments, which is supported by $1.2 billion in Federal funds allocated to the state under the SSBCI.

President Biden Celebrates Black Small Business Boom, Announces New Investments

During President Biden’s visit to the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce today, he showcased the unprecedented growth of Black small business ownership under his administration. In a press call, top White House officials attributed the surge in Black entrepreneurship, the fastest in 30 years, to Bidenomics, which the president pledged would receive further support through new investments targeting underserved communities.
